A Horse Buying Experience

Buyer Beware

My friend V. told me about her horse buying experience. She had several horses at her barn. She bought them using the help of a reputable horse broker. Now, she was looking to buy one for pleasure riding. They had looked at several but were very impressed with a dark bay Morgan horse being privately sold.

The mare was beautiful and had a good pedigree. They tacked up, rode her in the ring. the horse was quiet, gentle and well schooled. They bought her.

the horse was brought to their barn by trailer a few days later. But she was no longer the quiet, gentle mare. “She would not only buck, she would try to run you into the side of the barn. The horse was a lunatic”. Said V. No one could ride her. She almost killed each trainer that tried. The family finally sold her as a brood mare.

What could have happened to this horse between the time the family bought her and had her brought home. Had she been drugged by the previous owner? This was a possibility. But it could not be proven.
